Is it okay to challenge members of the same faction in the arena?
Of course, it is without a doubt okay to fight members of the same faction in the arena and is expect!
The arena challenges are designed in a way that encourages individual achievement as opposed to faction unity.
In short, after reading up on the subject in great detail what I have learned is that arena challenges are meant to be a mark of individual achievement and that means specifically to be known as "the best" one would have to challenge to duels members of both factions.
That is the way the game was designed.
The faction issue only comes into play in kingdom development and skimming of resources.
The arena challenges are specifically meant to determine who is the best player, not who is a member of the best faction.
Attacking a member of the same faction's kingdom would not be okay.
Skimming or stealing resources (via goblins and whatnot) from a member of the same faction would not be okay.
But arena challenges are meant as player vs player duels. You aren't awarded or punished in a way that is faction dependant. So when it comes to rising up the ranks in the arena you will have to fight other members of your faction.
UPDATE: I seen three people arguring in faction chat tonight about arena battles. One guy attacked another guy of the same faction in the arena. He was upset about it so he 7 goblins on the person's kingdom and stole a large amount of their resources resources. Person A tried to explain to him that arena challenges are player versus player based, and not faction dependant but player b wouldn't hear of it. Spent a good amount of time stealing resources like stone and timber from player A, actually hurting a player of the same faction, whereas losing an arena challenge doesn't really hurt you or your kingdom. Stealing resources from your own faction actually weakens your faction. If you have less resources that means you can't advance in the game. And if you have less resources that means you can't build new troops and that gives an advantage to the other faction.
What do you lose if you lose a player vs player battle (an arena challenge)? Player B never did quite understand the difference and apparently continued to steal resources from player A.
So again before you get all butt hurt let me remind you that arena challenges are specifically meant to determine who is the best player, not who is a member of the best faction.
To further prove this concept, the game developers recently held a bonus competition in which they awarded the top PLAYERS for arena challenges a bonus of magic potions. So if the game designers release promotions encouraging players to challenge other players in the arena then obviously that was the way they meant the game to be played.
ANY PERSON WHO WOULD STEAL RESOURCES FROM A MEMBER OF THEIR OWN FACTION IS A JERK AND HURTS EVERY MEMBER OF THAT FACTION BY THEIR ACTIONS!
